Q: How do Live Stream Classes work?
A: Live Stream Classes are live classes you can attend via video link (i.e. Zoom). Register for your class through MindBody Online, by selecting the “Live Stream” option on the schedule. 15-30 minutes before class you will receive an email from lab@antigravityfitness.com with the subject “AntiGravity Lab - Live Stream Class Link (Zoom)” with a link for your class.
Q: Can anyone do Aerial Yoga and Suspension Fitness?
A: Provided one does not have any of the contraindications listed herein and barring any physical abnormalities, anyone can do AntiGravity® Aerial Yoga and Suspension Fitness. AntiGravity® Restorative Yoga is the most gentle of our techniques and therefore accessible to all.
Q: How hard is it?
A: It depends on the type of class you take. We offer classes for total beginners with little to no fitness experience all the way to classes for elite athletes.
Q: What are the contraindications (aka precautions) for AG Fitness techniques?
A: Pregnancy, glaucoma, recent surgery (esp. shoulder, eyes, back, hips, hands or wrist), heart disease, very high or low blood pressure, easy onset vertigo, osteoporosis / bone weakness, recent head injury, cerebral sclerosis, propensity for fainting, carpal tunnel syndrome, severe arthritis, sinusitis or head cold, hiatal hernia, disc herniation or acute discogenic disease, recent stroke, artificial hips, radiculitis (inflammation of nerve root in spine), severe muscle spasms, botox injections (within 6 hours)
Q: Will I be successful in my first class?
A: Yes! Everyone leaves the class a success! Since this is a suspension class with deep philosophy, there is no competition nor ego encouraged. Everyone works at their own pace
Q: What should I wear?
A: We recommend wearing items that cover the armpits as the fabric can cause discomfort in that area. Cotton or cotton blend fabric is best (non-slippery). Remember, you will be upside down, so sports bra for females and shorts that are not too loose for guys. If wearing leggings make certain they are opaque (non-see through). If wearing sweats, tight around cuff of legs is best. No socks (unless they are sticky). You may need sticky gloves if you have weak grip. PLEASE NO JEWELRY.
Q: What should I bring?
A: Water or water bottle, sweat towel, and an open mind!
Q: Do I need to be a yoga practitioner?
A: No.
Q: Do I need to be physically fit?
A: Not necessarily. AG Fitness is easier than regular yoga because the AntiGravity Hammock supports you in your poses. However, AG Fitness is easiest for someone who maintains a consistent fitness regimen and has a strong core.
Q: Can I rent out the studio?
A: The LAB is for AntiGravity activities only. Studios can be rented for private group classes, team building events, etc. provided an AntiGravity instructor leads the class.
Q: I practice yoga regularly and am pretty fit. Do I have to take a Fundamentals Class?
A: Fundamentals is less about fitness level and more an introduction to a new experience. In a Fundamentals class one learns the basic wraps, grips and traps, the basis of the practice, while becoming familiar with the hammock and inversions. Being upside down is also a new sensation and sometimes it takes a few times to get used to the feeling no matter how fit you are.
Q: I tried to register for an Advanced Class but it told me I didn’t meet the requirements of Frequent Flyer. What does Frequent Flyer mean and how do I become one?
A: As a courtesy to both our instructors and our students, we restrict upper level classes to only Frequent Flyers. Frequent Flyer is our designation for advanced students who have fulfilled the Fundamentals requirement and have been endorsed to take higher level classes by our instructors. If you think you might be a Frequent Flyer, or you would like to become one, let the instructor and/or studio manager know. We’ll assess your progress and if we feel you’re ready, we will let you know and unrestricted your account. General requirements are 3-5 Fundamentals classes and/or instructor endorsement. If you have questions please direct them to the studio manager.
Q: Which AntiGravity® Aerial Yoga or Suspension Fitness class is best for me?
A: This depends on your fitness level. We recommend that everyone start with an AG Fundamentals group class or private course. At the LAB, advanced classes are restricted to those who have completed 3+ Fundamentals classes AND/OR obtained endorsement of one of our instructors. In any case, remember that you are always encouraged to work at a level that feels natural to you.
Q: Should I come on an empty stomach?
A: We recommend having something in the stomach to stave off dizziness. However, we do not recommend a big meal.
Q: Will I get dizzy?
A: This could be a challenge if one has a strong propensity for dizziness or a “hips over head” spatial awareness style dyslexia. Ginger candy before class can help.
Q: How will I feel after?
A: You will feel taller and lighter. Your muscles will have a pump and you will be refreshed!
Q: Are all aerial yoga classes alike?
A: As with anything in life, no two things are alike. In fitness there are a lot of copy cats. AntiGravity® is the original aerial yoga program and the only aerial yoga/fitness techniques certified by NASM and AFAA. Over 15 years went into the development of the technique after Mr. Harrison created the apparatus.
Q: Are you sure the AntiGravity® Hammock will hold me?
A: Every portion of the Harrison AntiGravity® Hammock is rated for well over 2000 lbs. (9 Kn)(908kgs). The points in the ceiling in an AG Fitness approved center have been placed by a professional contractor and certified by an engineer and are rated to hold at least 1000 lbs (4.5kn)(454kgs) per set up.
Q: How ‘yoga-like’ is AntiGravity® Aerial Yoga?
A: This depends on your instructor. Although it is a hybrid technique, the class is a perfect formula for a body/mind/spirit class that brings about awareness. AG Fitness Aerial Yoga classes in fitness gyms do not tend to be as spirit based as they are in yoga studios. Every class starts with a levitating meditation and ends with a floating Shavasana.
Q: Can AntiGravity® Fitness make me taller?
A: Yes! Our promise to you is that after class you will be stretched to your maximum height, varying between ¼” to 1 ½” taller. Unfortunately, the effects are not cumulative.
Q: Can AntiGravity® Fitness techniques heal my back pain?
A: Our licensed centers, instructors and practitioners around the globe all have amazing testimonials of healing through our zero-compression inversions.
Q: Can I become a Certified AntiGravity® Instructor (CAGI)?
A: Yes. AntiGravity Teacher Trainings are periodically held at the LAB. More information about the process and upcoming trainings can be found here http://antigravityfitness.com/How-to-become-an-AG-Fitness-Instructor
Q: Can I open my own AntiGravity® Studio?
A: Yes. Information on Licensing can be found here http://www.antigravityyoga.com/html/antigravity_yoga_licensing_for.html
